Making biometric attendance compulsory is shocking in wake of ever increasing cases of Covid-19 spread

The Maharashtra government has made biometric attendance mandatory in all government and BMC hospitals. With the number of Coronavirus cases already hitting high day by day, this move of the Government has put several people and activists in shock. Asking the justification of this, RTI Activist Anil Galgali has demanded immediate revocation of this new rule of biometric attendance.

RTI Activist Anil Galgali has written to Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope, Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta and BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal demanding immediate cancellation of this move. The circular signed by BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal and Dr. Tatyarao Lahane on 16th May, 2020 includes 9 conditions. It has a biometric requirement and is mandatory for medical, non-medical and para-medical officers and staffers in all services in government and BMC hospitals.

Notably, the Central Government has cancelled biometric attendance system and there is no biometric presence in reputed hospitals like AIIMS. Referring this, Anil Galgali has requested Maharashtra government not to play with the lives of medical officers and staffers.
