The bungalow of hydraulic engineer under Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been gifted away to the guardian minister of Mumbai city Aslam Sheikh by the Maharashtra government. The move has raised the eyebrows of the civic society. The said bungalow was declared dangerous and unsafe, forcing the then IAS officer Praveen Darade to vacate it. RTI activist Anil Galgali has complained to Chief Minister Uddhav Bala Saheb Thackeray terming it an "encroachment" on the property of the BMC by the Maharashtra government and has demanded action to reconsider over it.
In his letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Galgali has questioned the role of the Maharashtra government and asked how did the government, at the first point, alloted the property of the BMC, without taking approval of BMC? Prior to this, on May 26, 2020, the Maharashtra government issued an order cancelling the allotment of Bel Heaven 1 to Minister Aslam Sheikh and then re-alloted the dilapidated bungalow owned by the BMC to him. This decision has not gone well with the activists.
In fact, the BMC had try to forced the then IAS officer Pravin Darade to vacate the bungalow as it was declared dangerous and the BMC claimed that the it had the right to decide on the property owned by BMC. Darade has given letter that he cannot shift due to lockdown. Now the haphazard allotment of this dangerous declared bungalow has raised eyebrows of many in the circle. This is because the bungalow was allotted by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to an other IAS Officer a few months back, during a structural audit being carried out.
Anil Galgali has already demanded that the bungalow reserved for hydraulic engineer be handed over to the hydraulic engineer. He has requested Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta, BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal to conduct structural audit of the bungalow as per the order of the Mumbai High Court and allot it to the hydraulic engineer as per the existing rules.
