Mumbai University's Administration Work on "absent" Members of the Senate's shoulders

Along with Mumbai University, and the rest of the Universities of Maharashtra, the state government has postponed the election of new senate members. So the management of university has now come on the shoulders of the nominee senate members. However, in the University of Mumbai, nominee members for the senate for the period 2013 to 2015, it was shocking to see the muster of members. Many members have refrained to attend or have been absent on purpose for the meetings, revealed an RTI filed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali. While term of several nominated members has ended, when the matter appears to be that interested in more affected the functioning of the State Government of the University of Mumbai. The State Government has to get the New University Act implemented in the upcoming State Winter session. So the government has postponed the election for the next year of the election of members of the Senate. Naturally, the university is responsible for working on cast members nominated. 21 members have been nominated by the University Senate in the past. Information in regards to the meetings attended by members of the Senate, RTI had been sought by Anil Gagali. The reply to RTI stated that many of these nominated members have remain absent for many of their meetings. # Permanent members absent Senate of the party that consists of Jitendra Awhad, Prakash Binsale, Praveen Darekar, Raj Shroff, Charan Singh Sapra and Shriram Dandekar have remained absent for the meetings of senate held between 2013 to 2015. As per the University Law, 3 members of the senate should be of ranks of Director of any forum of Higher Education, and Joint Director ranks. Joint Director of the Department of Higher Education in Mumbai, Technical Director and director of medical education also be a member of the Senate team for the Mumbai University. Dr M. S. Molvane, Dayanand Meshram and others, None of the members of these three members of the 2013 to 2015 period, the Senate never attended the meeting. #No action on the Absence of Members If the absence of a meeting of the Senate three consecutive meetings of any member of the Senate members can take action to cancel their membership under the Maharashtra University Act. However, no such action has been initiated by the Mumbai. Anil galgali says, " Action should also be taken on Government officers who are responsible to see the working of the senate on day-to-day basis, or even those who are monitoring the senate" . Government should also take action against Govt nominated member under Service Rule & Regulation Act, said Galgali. # 21 nominated members Out of the 21 members nominated by the University Senate, 2 members hsould be from the Vidhan sabha or lower house of the Legilsative Assembly and 2 members are to be from the Vidhan Parishad or the Upper house of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Kulapatinni or Chancellor can select 7 members, 2 from the major recognized organization,3 from within the University belonging to any organization, 3 from the Student union, 1 member is from the ZP education organisation and 1 member is from the Corporation.
