Mumbai Metro Reality,Top Heaven below Hell

The Mumbai Metro running between Versova to Ghatkoper is in news again, this time it relates as to on whom the onus is it to repair, decorate and maintain the portion below where the Metro runs. The onus of the repairs and maintenance of the area below the metro line, its decoration has been a responsibility of the BMC and on the MMOPL. Even though MMOPl had initiated, that it would decorate the flower bed, the same work has been neglected by the MMOPl for now nearly 823 days. Its revels in RTI query filed by RTI Activists Anil Galgali.

RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought information through RTI in relation to the non maintenance of areas below where the metro runs to the MMRDA. In reply to this query MMRDA said that the roads, footpath, sewerage lines running below the Metro from Versova to Ghatkoper is strictly under the BMC, wheareas the decoration of the flower beds belongs to the MMOPL. Also the space between the huge pillars on standing the roads, its decoration, repairs and maintenance, is the job of Mumbai Metro -1 Pvt Ltd, the reply to the RTI stated. In relation as to what action was initiated by the MMRDA on seeing the non completion of the works, it handed over a copy of the permission given to the Mumbai Metro 1  Pvt Ltd for the decoration of area below the Metro. PRK Murthy, Chief, Transportation of MMRDA on the 1st January 2013 had given the permission so that all the conditions will be fulfilled. But in a clear case of non performance of the duty for a good 29 months. PRK Murthy has slammed a letter on the 3rd March 2015 to the head of planning and whole time Director Bharat B Modgil and reminded them of the terms and conditions and asking for the immediate beginning of the decoration work.

"The Mumbai Metro company is clearly playing with the MMRDA, but woth this they are also playing with the lives of Mumbaikers. On top we have heaven, but below the Metro, the common Mumbaikar faces hell" claims Anil Galgali. Anil Galgali in a letter to the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged the MMRDA to take a strict action on mumbai metro company for non complaince and also instructed the BMC to begin the work assigned to them.
