Mumbai Witnessed 61 deaths in the 5 years due to Swine Flu

The city of Mumbai has witnessed 61 deaths in the last 5 years due to Swine Flu. The Government has failed to control and put a permanent halt on this ever growing disease. Out of 61 deaths recorded in last 5 years, 20 persons were belonging to other cities than Mumbai, claims RTI Activists Anil Galgali, who had sought information from the Public Health Department of MCGM.

Rti Activists Anil Galgali had sought information from the Public Health department of the MCGM regarding Casualties and number of patienrs admitted due to Swine Flu in the whole of BMCs jurisdiction. MCGM  Epidemic Control Department's Deputy Health Officer (DHO) informed Anil Galgali that since the year 2010 to 2014 in all 1301 patients with Swine Flu reported and 33 were dead in this period. In the year 2015, till the 15th of March, out of 1150 persons diagnosed of Swine Flu, 450 were admitted to hospitals and 8 patients have been reported dead due to the disease. Also out of the total 149 people from outside Mumbai 131 are already undergoing treatments at various hospitals. Amongst outsiders, 20 people have been already dead. Galgali says, " what is matter of concern and shocking is that in comparison to 2010 the death rate is more in the first three months of 2015 then in 2010. Till now in Mumbai 8, and from outside Mumbai 20, so in all 28 people have been dead. Looking at these figures, I have requested Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BMC Commissioner Sitaram Kunte for arranging seperate funds go tackle this dangerous disease"

    # No separate funds.

In RTI query Anil Galgali had asked for the funds that were made available to tackle Swine Flu by the Centre, State Government and MCGM, it was told that no such separate fund has been organized or given to the Epidemic Control Department of the MCGM. But, even if there is no separate funds available, all the MCGM Hospitals are well equipped with all the facilities required to tackle the deadly disease."Oseltmiveer" the drug that is prescribed against Swine Flue is also available in plenty in all the hospitals. The testing of swine Flu facility is made available at the PCR laboratory at Kasturba, Haffkine Laboratory and various other private laboratories. The public helpline has been started at one can dial 24114000 to report the same.
