Bmc spent 13.59 cr to prepare Mumbai's Revised DP plan

An RTI has found that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had to spent Rs 13.59 crore on various heads to come up with the revised Development Plan 2034, after the first plan presented in February 2015. 

The development plan prepared under the municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte had drawn severe criticism from all the quarters and the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had ordered civic body to come with new and revised development plan, by objections and suggestions from the public. 

The final footprint of this much awaited and debated revised plan was approved by the state government in this week only. 


According to the RTI, filed by RTI activist Anil Galgali has found that Rs 46.55 lakhs was paid to Ramanath Jha as remuneration who was appointed as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to come up with revised PD.

Information provided by the administrative officer of the Development Plan also says that it had to spend Rs 1.26 crore as the expense of uploading the draft development plan at BMC's website, while it had to spend Rs 46 lakhs for the printing of plan. 


Ex-IAS officer Gautam Chaterjee, Ex- chief engineer Sudhir Ghate and former deputy director (planning) were paid around Rs 20 lakhs for holding hearings, finalising objections and suggestions from the public. 

While Rs 3.35 crore was paid to Akhil Bhartiya Sthanik Swaraj Sanstha for hiring technical experts, planner and manpower," finds the reply. 

It also finds that BMC to spend Rs 10 lakh as contingency during the course of entire revision of planning. 

Terming this expenditure as "lavish" Galgali said that had the first plan been drafted well, then this huge money belonging to common tax payers.
