No proposal submit to provide 100 units of electricity for free- Department of Energy

Despite the fact that the Power Minister of Maharashtra announced to provide 100 units of electricity free, same Department has admitted that it has no such proposal submitted to provide 100 units of electricity for free. The department has said so while replying to an Right To Information (RTI) query filed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali.

RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought to know about the status of the proposal to provide 100 units of free electricity and whether this proposal has got cabinet's nod. The Department of Energy sent a letter to Anil Galgali stating that no such proposal has been submitted by the Department. The department, however, has received 2 letters from all over Maharashtra. One of them is written by the President of the Chandivali Taluka of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Babu Batteli and the other is Ravindra Tarare of Nagpur.

In addition to this, The Department of Energy has also given a set of document to Galgali on the power and related problems in the Maharashtra including Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut's statement about government's initiative to provide 100 units of electricity free of cost.

According to Anil Galgali, before making such a populist announcement, the energy minister should have done proper home work and prepared a detailed proposal besides discussing with Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray.

"Making such premature statement is highly avoidable. Ministers are in dire need of a code of conduct," Galgali pointed out.
