Mumbai Municipal Corporation ke BMC is amongst the richest Municipal Corporations in the country and is flushed with money. In reply to RTI query to RTI Activist Anil Galgali was informed by the Administration of BMC that it has spent 120 crore rupees on Repairs and Renovation on BMC Headquarter.

Repairs and renovation works are regularly carried out at BMC headquarters. Anil Galgali was informed that during the period 2008 to 2012 the building construction department has spent rupees 120 crore 61 lakhs 41 thousand 932 rupees. Out of this rupees 111 crore 73 lac 83 thousand 561 was paid to M/s Construction Technique, M/s Glass Sensation, M/s Skyway Infraprojects Private Limited and  M/s Shandaar Interiors Private Limited. Rupees 8 crore 87 lac 59 thousand and 371 is still unpaid.

For it's main building the work list prepared jointly by M/s Abha Narayan Lamba Associates, M/s S J K Architecture, M/s Shashi Prabhu and Associates included stone wall reinstallation, strengthening and protection of wooden pillars of the passage and staircase and repair work of the roof. This work was given to M/s Construction Technique for 7 crore 31 lakhs 17 thousand  805 rupees in 2008.

Work for reinstallation of glass at the main building was approved in 2010 and given to M/s Glass Sensations for 82 lakhs 52 thousand 909 rupees. Repair and renovation work though essential, the amount of rupees 120 crores seems quite high. The works could have been carried our at lower cost feels Anil Galgali. In his letter to the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Galgali has asked independent audit of expenses as inflated expenditures cannot be ruled out.
