The Hospital's under the Public Health Department of the Mumbai Municipal corporation have under staffed the posts of Lab Technician and Pharmacists as per the information provided by the Public Health Department to RTI Activist Anil Galgali. A total of 67 Lab Technician and 62 pharmacists posts are lying vacant in various hospitals all over Mumbai leading to patients being forced to take services of private labs.
RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought information about the details of posts of Lab Technician, Pharmacists and X Ray Technicians from the Public Health Department of the Mumbai Municipal corporation. Mrs Meenal Panat, Jt Chief Personal Officer ( Health) of the Public Health Department of MCGM provided information about the total posts and vacant posts to Galgali. According to the information, out of the total 203 Posts of Lab Technician, 67 posts are lying vacant. Out of 234 posts of Pharmacists, 62 are lying vacant. And 1 post out of 14 posts of X-ray technicians are lying vacant.
The posts of Lab Technician and Pharmacists are very important in a hospital and it is purposely kept vacant so that the patients can be coerced to take services of private labs in those areas, alleged Anil Galgali. In a letter addressed to CM Devendra Fadnavis and MCGM Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, Galgali has demanded that the vacant posts of Lab Technician and Pharmacists should be immediately filled to provide respite to the poor patients who flock to the municipal hospitals.
