MAHARASHTRA MARITIME BOARD HAS SPENT 22 CRORES IN DERDGING AT VASAI, VERSOVA & MANDWA

Maharashtra Maritime Board has provided information to the RTI Activist Anil Galgali that 22 Crore was spent for dredging at Vasai, Versova & Mandwa in last five months. Though Maharashtra Maritime Board had its own dredgers then also crores of money was spent on private vessels.


RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought information regarding dredging by Maharashtra Maritime Board in last three years. Marine Engineer & Chief Surveyor of the Maharashtra Maritime Board had informed Anil Galgali that dredger owned by Maharashtra Maritime Board had dredged a quantity of 27, 300 Cu M from the Gorai Jetty  during the period of April 2016 to May 2017, 23, 750 Cu M from the Borivali Jetty  during the period of January 2017 to March 2017, 36, 581 Cu M from Deobag (Kalyan) during the period of October 2016 to May 2017 & 17, 250 Cu M from the Borivali Jetty  during the period of April 2017 to May 2017.


Thereafter, Maharashtra Maritime Board expended an amount of 22, 14, 43, 470 rupees in 05 months on hiring of private vessels. Maharashtra Maritime Board has credited M/s Samudra Dredging Pvt. Ltd. An amount of RS. 1, 66, 93, 644 rupees for dredging of 45, 988 Cu M for dredging during November 2017 to December 2017.  Maharashtra Maritime Board has credited M/s Samudra Dredging Pvt. Ltd. an amount of RS. 3, 93, 47, 000 rupees for dredging of 1, 72, 557 Cu M for dredging during January 2018 to March 2018. During this time 6, 72, 97, 230 rupees were spent on dredging at Mandwa for a quantity of 1, 72, 557 Cu M. Maharashtra Maritime Board has credited M/s Rock & Reef Dredging Pvt. Ltd. an amount of 9, 81, 05, 280 rupees for dredging of 1, 72, 557 Cu M  during April 2018 to May 2018.


According to Anil Galgali, though Maharashtra Maritime Board has its own dredgers, it had gone for resources of private companies. Therefore the amount dredged and the same dumped in any dumping location must be made in public domain by the Maharashtra Maritime Board. Therefore, Anil Galgali has by has addressed letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis requesting him further for using MMB owned vessels for dredging operation.
