Mumbai University's failed Law student, Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, is its own VC.
A Vice Chancellor of the Mumbai University , which has more than 740 affiliated colleges under it, in which lakhs of students are enrolled for taking quality education, has to have an impeccable record and it is generally inappropriate to question his capability. But a certainly shocking information came to light vide a reply to an RTI query filed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali that the current recently appointed VC Dr Sanjay Vasant Deshmukh has failed to clear his LLB exams from the very same University.
RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought information vide his RTI query dt 18/09/2015 regarding the Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjay Vasant Deshmukh's,attempt at LLB examinations from the Examination Results dept, Enrollment Dept and the Revaluation dept of the Mumbai University. The Dy Registrar of the University's Examination Results cell informed Anil Galgali that, Sanjay Vasant Deshmukh had taken admission for the LLB course for which the 1st Semester examinations was held in October / November 2014 , but did not appear for the exams, but he appeared for his 2nd Semester exams held in April / May 2015 and failed to clear the papers attempted.
# Permanent Registration Number still pending
Any student enrolled for any courses conducted by the Mumbai University is issued a Permanent Registration Number (PRN) by the University. But Dr Sanjay Deshmukh who has since been appointed as the VC has not been issued a PRN number, admitted the Enrollment dept in its reply to the query of Anil Galgali. The Dy Registrar of the Enrollment Dept in its reply to Galgali has informed that since the enrollment of Sanjay Vasant Deshmukh is still pending, hence the PRN no cannot be provided for. He has further informed that Sanjay Vasant Deshmukh has sought admission from the Adv Datta Patil College of Law, Alibaug and his Eligibility is still pending , hence a PRN number has not been issued. Galgali has noted that a student whose PRN number is not issued is not allowed to sit for examinations , and if that is allowed , his results are withheld. But since Sanjay Vasant Deshmukh was himself the Vice Chancellor of the University his exam results were declared alleged Galgali.
# Not applied for Revaluation of results.
The Dy Registrar of the Revaluation Dept , has informed Galgali that, Sanjay Vasant Deshmukh who has appeared for the Semester 2 exams held in April / May 2015 and failed, has not applied for Revaluation of his results.
RTI Activist Anil Galgali has expressed that the failure to clear the LLB exams by the Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh is a very serious issue, and has questioned the motive of the Search Committee, which was appointed to recommend the names for consideration for appointment as VC. Galgali further sought to know the basis and credentials on which the Search Committee recommended the name of Dr Sanjay Deshmukh for the post of VC. In a letter addressed to the Governor of Maharashtra, who is also the Chancellor of the Mumbai University has requested to take steps to preserve the reputation of the University. He further stated that appointment of Dr Sanjay Deshmukh who failed in the exams for a course under the Mumbai University is a setback to the glorious tradition and prestige of the famed Mumbai University.
