Mumbai police seizes drugs and narcotics worth Rs 1,081 Cr in 19 months

According to an Right to Information (RTI), filed with Mumbai Police, the narcotics cell of city police has seized drugs and narcotics worth Rs 1,081 Cr in last 19 months. Police has also arrested 1073 drug peddlers and other other accused in this connection.The figures indicating that the incidents of drug sales have shot up in these months, despite police launching massive crackdown to end this menace.

RTI activist Anil Galgali had ask for information to Mumbai Police about the number of items seized, name of the item, the total value and the number of accused arrested in the Drug case during the last one year. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vinod Shinde of the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police provided the data of year 2018 and the current year till September 2019 to Anil Galgali. In this information, from January 1 to December 31, 2018, 1363 KG, 3241 Grams,1364 Milli Gram of heroin, measles, cocaine, marijuana, MD, LCD were seized. The value of the goods was Rs 10,16 crore 32 lakh 56 thousand 45 Rupees and 395 accused were arrested. The highest number of accused were marijuana users, and the number was 194. Between January 1 to September 30, 2019, goods worth 169 Kg, 4150 grams,1282 Milli Gram were recovered in Police Action. Total value of goods was Rs 64 crore 64 lakh 62 thousand 352. This year, the number of accused has doubled and a total 678 accused have been arrested. RTI filed by activist Anil Galgali says that the narcotics seized by police include Heroin, hashish, Koken, Marijuana, MD, LCD among others.


According to Anil Galgali, the supply of addictive and stimulant substances from outside states in Mumbai is expand and there should be the scope of police action increase and there is a need to raise awareness and special campaigns against drug addiction by involving citizens.
