Process for proposed Worli to Sewri elevated road moves in a slow pace

MMRDA had in its authority meeting approved construction of an Worli to Sewri elevated road costing RS 1276 crores almost 21 months back, but the process to start the project has lost momentum and pace. Lack of various NOC's with appointment of contractors and advisors remains pending. This information was provided by the Engineering department of the MMRDA to RTI Activist Anil Galgali.

RTI activist Anil Galgali had asked the MMRDA authority for information about the Worli- Sewri Elevated road. The engineering department of the MMRDA authority informed Anil Galgali that the length of the Worli-to-Sewri road is about 4.51 km and the width is 17 meters. The expected expenditure for this project is Rs 1276 crore as approved at a 147 meeting of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority on February 27, 2018. At present the tender process for contractor appointment and consultant appointment is in progress. The department which requires the NOC for the Worli- Sewri road includes Mumbai Port Trust, Maharashtra Seashore Division Management Authority, Slum Rehabilitation Authority, Traffic Department and Tree Authority of Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

According to Anil Galgali, this Worli-Sewri road is an important phase in the Mumbai public transport system and MMRDA authority needs to take action on the battlefield for this road.
