MMRDA spends Rs 53 crore on Covid-19 hospital

At a time when rising cases of Coronavirus cases were filling all available beds in government and private hospitals and there were talks flowing about the scarcity of the beds in near future in Mumbai, the infrastructure and town planning arm of Govt of Maharashtra MMRDA swung into action and built an Covid specific hospital. The MMRDA has informed RTI activist Anil Galgali that it has spent Rs. 53 crore on account of constructing the Covid hospital in BKC. With 2118 bed available in the facility, the expense of each bed is Rs 2,50,000/-

RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought various information about the hospital in phase 1 and phase 2 constructed under Covid 19 from MMRDA administration. As per the information given, a total of Rs. 53 crore has been spent on this purpose. In the first phase, Rs 14.21 crore were spent on civil and electricals while Rs 21.55 crore have been spent in the second phase. 

The total number of beds installed in both stages is 2118. In the first phase, Rs 5.26 Cr were spent on equipment and material and Rs 12.06 Cr were spent in the second phase. These facilities include oxygen, ICU, dialysis, triage. 

Procurement, work and services under Covid 19 were made in accordance with the government's proposal of the Department of Industry, Energy and Labour of Maharashtra as well as the special conditions of the Finance Department of the Central Government and the provisions of emergency procurement. 
 
"Even if the tenders were not floated, the MMRDA needs to keep all the expenditure information updated and uploaded on its website, so that anyone can easily inspect and avail it," Anil Galgali reacted.
