The rapidly spreading corona in the world gripped India into fist prompting Central Government to offer its much-needed help to fight against deadly virus to all the states by providing tools and other medical equipments. In this efforts, Maharashtra has been the biggest beneficiary. The Department of Health and Family Welfare, while replying to an RTI query filed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali, has said that it has allocated the highest number masks, kits, tablets and ventilators to Maharashtra state. So far, a total of 2.18 crore N95 mocks, 1.21 crore PPE kits, 6.12 crore HCQ tablets and 9150 ventilators have been allocated by the Central Government across the country.
RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought information from the Department of Health and Family Welfare on 1st May 2020 about the equipments and materials allotted to the States under Kovid 19 pandemic. But department refused to share the details. On refusal to give the information, Galgali filed first appeal on 1st June 2020 with the Director of the Ministry Rajiv Wadhwan and then Wadhwan directed HLL Life Care Limited to share the material distribution information to Anil Galgali.
Under Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, G.K. Pillai gave a list of equipments allocated to States, Union Territories till 10th July 2020. According to this list, the Central government has allocated 2.18 crore N-95 masks, 1.21 crore PPE kits, 6.12 crore HCQ tablets and 9150 ventilators across the country. It has benefited the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress of Maharashtra government the most.
The three-party coalition government of Maharashtra got 21.84 lakh N-95 masks, 11.78 lakh PPE kits, 77.20 lakh HCQ tablets and 1805 ventilators. However, the central government has made provisions for central institutions. This includes 26.61 lakh N95 masks, 14.38 lakh PPE kits, 57.32 lakh HCQ tablets and 330 ventilators.
The most demanding are the ventilators !
There is a requirement of 17,938 ventilators across the country. Out of this, only 9150 ventilator has been allotted by the central government. Only 100 per cent ventilators were allotted to Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Puducherry and Odisha states and UTs. While Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Ladakh are still deprived of ventilators. Maharashtra still needs 1770 ventilators, Karnataka 1020, Andhra Pradesh 914, Uttar Pradesh 811, Rajasthan 706 and Tamil Nadu 529 ventilators.
Reacting over the reply, Galgali slammed government's approach to not share the information in first place and demanded to upload all Covid-19 related info and efforts at its website. "This will underline the government's efforts and ensure transparency," he said.
