Mumbai University's grant of Rs 27.98 crores remains unpaid by state government

Mumbai University is entitled for various grants from the state government totalling Rs 65.12 crores, out of which almost RS 27.98 crores remains unpaid to the University, according to an response to an RTI query by the Mumbai University to RTI Activist Anil Galgali. This pending grant plan includes the late Balasaheb Thackeray Adhyasan, National Higher Level Education Campaign, Mumbai Economics and Public Policy and Project My Marathi.


RTI activist Anil Galgali had ask the information from Mumbai University about the various grants received by the Maharashtra government. Rajendra Ambawade, Deputy Secretary, Finance and Accounting Department of Mumbai University informed Anil Galgali that there was an approved grant of Rs 63 crore 32 lakh 72 thousand 997 for the Accounting and Development Cell, but in reality Rs 35 crore 82 lakh 72 thousand 997 was received and Rs 27 crore 50 lakh was pending. In the last 10 years, from the year 2009-10 to the year 2018-19, the Government has given only 100% of the grant sanctioned in the narrow section, amounting to Rs. 2 crore 74 lakh 63 thousand 633. Under this social class Rs 10 crore for women hostel, Rs 1. 79 crore for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College in Ratnagiri, Rs 91.57 lakh for Vijayalakshmi College in Sindhudurg, Rs 57.60 lakh for Maharashtra State Encyclopedia Generation Board, Rs 4.13 lakh for All India Higher Education Survey work which 100% grant received by Mumbai University. But the late Balasaheb Thackeray Adhyashan has given a grant of Rs 5 crore for the study, of which only Rs 1 crore has been received. An amount of Rs 4 crore is pending with the government. The grant sanctioned for the National Higher Level Education Mission is Rs 20 crore, out of which Rs 15 crore has been received and Rs 5 crore is pending. While Rs 25 crore is sanctioned for Mumbai economics and public policy, the government has given only Rs 6.50 crore and Rs 18.50 crore is still pending. Out of the total grant of Rs 63 crore 32 lakh 72 thousand 997, the government has provided only Rs 35 crore 82 lakh 72 thousand 997 and Rs 27 crore 50 lakh is pending. In addition, out of the approved grant of Rs 1.80 crore in the German department, the government has given Rs 1 crore 31 lakh 72 thousand 700 and Rs 48 lakh 27 thousand 300 is pending. 

According to Anil Galgali, the amount which the government has approved must be given to the University of Mumbai immediately so that the University of Mumbai can accelerate that plan.
