After an RTI query, the government appoints Sanjay Mehere as Charity Commissioner

Post of Maharashtra state Charity Commissioner has been lying vacant for the past 187 days as per information provided by the office of Charity Commissioner to an RTI query from Anil Galgali. The moment Anil Galgali received information, he sent complaints to CM Devendra Fadnavis and Dr Ranjit Patil, the Minister of State for Law and Judiciary. On receipt of the complaints the state government immediately took action and also appointed Sanjay Mehere, The Chief Civil and Sessions Judge as Charity Commissioner. Charity Commissioner shoulders the responsibility of closely monitoring activities of various public trusts and societies operational in the state ensuring proper implementation of beneficial public schemes.

The desk officer of the Law and Judiciary department, Shri Mahendra Pujari informed Galgali that, as per GR St 5th July 2019, Sanjay Mehere, the Chief Civil and Sessions Judge was appointed on the post of Charity Commissioner, Maharashtra State, Mumbai. RTI activist Anil Galgali had enquired as to since when is the post of Charity Commissioner vacant and who has the responsibility of appointing the Charity Commissioner? The Charity Commission Office informed on 4 June 2019 Anil Galgali that The post is vacant since 5th December, 2018 and it is the responsibility of the State Government to appoint Charity Commissioner. Previous Charity Commissioner Mr. Shivkumar Dighe was appointed by the state government on 18 August, 2017. 

On the issue, Anil Galgali filed an written complaint with CM Devendra Fadnavis and Dr Ranjit Patil, the MOS, Law and Judiciary. This lead to a movement of things and the government immediately appointed Sanjay Mehere, the Chief Civil and Sessions Judge on the post of Charity Commissioner. Stating that, a post like the Charity Commissioner got justice due to an RTI query, Galgali expressed his thanks to the state government.

  1. Hello sir, Is it possible to file RTI to the Charity Commissioner online through https://rtionline.maharashtra.gov.in/ ?
    Under which department would it be correct to submit a RTI request ?
