Mumbaikar gather against the decision of the Chief Minister

A move to change the current policy of open spaces, playgrounds and recreation grounds in Mumbai

The Bombay Catholic Sabha organized a meeting at St. Michael's Hall in Mahim against the Chief Minister's order to the Municipal Commissioner to change the current policy of open spaces, playgrounds and recreation grounds in Mumbai. All the speakers emphasized on protecting the government and the municipality instead of adopting a private organization or individual.

Former Central Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi said that the government should maintain the public lands which are reserved. It is necessary to protect the interests of citizens. This is our land and it is necessary to fight for it and citizens need to unite at the local level.

MLA Amit Satam said that it's possible to rich municipality but Mumbai has been neglected for the past few years. Organization needs to focus on local level. Stating that I have come here with the permission of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnvis.Satam said that it is necessary to meet Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal and raise the issues. Changing the policy for only 41 people is wrong.

RTI activist Anil Galgali said that the municipality currently has a total of 1068 open spaces, playgrounds and recreation grounds on 1200 acres. Attempts are being made by some political leaders and others to change the current policy but as earlier Devendra Fadnavis had given a moratorium, he will take the initiative, Galgali expressed this belief. Citizens should take the initiative to observe the area around them and report it so that the municipality realizes that the citizens are paying attention, added Galgali.

Mahesh Zagde, a former IAS said that the municipality should protect the open space itself. At that time, such an experiment was also being conducted in Pune, as the commissioner, we refused it.

Bhaskar Prabhu said that citizens should come forward for audit. This will allow you to notice the progress of the local park. Another activist P Sriganesh said that maintaining such a space is a challenge now. Government should take responsibility. The meeting was organized by Dolphy D'Souza, Norbert Mendonca, Vinod Noronha and team.
