Municipal Commissioner gives permission for new recruitment in Mumbai Fire Brigade

The Municipal Commissioner has given permission for new recruitment in the Mumbai Fire Brigade and the vacancies will be filled soon. The Mumbai Fire Brigade is ready for a new recruitment after the pursuing of RTI Activist Anil Galgali.

Anil Galgali, an RTI activist, had lodged a written complaint on September 6, 2020, alleging vacancy in Mumbai Fire brigade information through RTI. The Mumbai Fire Brigade has informed Anil Galgali that the vacancies could not be filled due to a circular issued by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation on September 30, 2019. On September 9, 2020, the Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal approved the removal of the fire department from the restrictions imposed on new recruits.

At present, 25 per cent posts are vacant in the Mumbai Fire Brigade, which is affecting operations. After Anil Galgali's pursuing, Mumbai Fire Chief Shashikant Kale has personally given priority. Mumbai Fire Brigade is an essential service and the work will be expedited after filling the vacancies, said Anil Galgali.
