Police Salary Accounts have been with Axis Bank since 2007 - Maharashtra Police

It is alleged that after the pressure by the wife of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra Police has decided to start all officer's and Staff payroll accounts at Axis Bank Bank. But after the government's decision in 2005, the finance department has allowed Maharashtra Police to open accounts not only in Axis Bank but in all 14 National and Private banks. It's reveals in a RTI Query filed by a RTI Activist Anil Galgali.

RTI Activist Anil Galgali had ask  to Maharashtra Police on August 30, 2019  for various information about the bank where the police payroll was allowed to open. Anil Sawant, Superintendent of the office of the Director General of Police of Maharashtra Police, informed Anil Galgali that as per the government's decision on August 29, 2005, the government has fixed the procedure for providing monthly pay salaries and allowances to all government officials and employees through the bank. A total of 14 Nationalized banks and Private banks have been contracted by the Government and according to the decision of this Government, instructions have been given on opening of payroll and disbursement officers of any of the 14 banks at the branch of the bank as per the preference of the officers and employees. The top 14 banks include Axis Bank's then-UTI Bank are in the list of Government Resolution dated August 29, 2005.

According to this decision, the salary account of the officers and staff of Maharashtra Police Headquarters has been opened in Axis Bank since 2007. In the banks which provide good facilities, the relevant factors in the police force decide on their level to open the payroll accounts. Anil Galgali had also asked that the salary accounts of the police officers and staff members of Maharashtra Police Force be in Axis Bank,Is any complaints or suggestions received against Axix Bank, Shri Sawant informed that According the Record,  the office does not appear to have received complaints or suggestions.


These 14 banks include State Bank of India, Indian Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of Hyderabad, Central Bank of India, Dena Bank, Corporation Bank, Andhra Bank, United Bank of India, UTI Bank Limited, Head of ICICI Bank of India, HDFC Bank Limited. The current Axis Bank was then UTI Bank Limited. According to Anil Galgali, when the government gave the police 14 bank options in 2005 and no police had any complaints or suggestions about it, Maharashtra Police made it clear that it's there decision, said Galgali.
