The under construction Elevated Road between the Bandra Kurla complex ( G Block) to the Eastern Express Highway and the ROB over the Railway crossing on the VN Purav Marg, Chunabhatti having got delayed due to various reasons is slated to open up for the road traffic by November 2019 as per the information provided by MMRDA administration to RTI Activist Anil Galgali. With this Elevated ROAD in place, the motorists would be saved from taking the diversions from Sion and Kurla and this will substantially reduced the traffic congestion on those roads as well.
RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought information from the MMRDA administration about the progress in the projects of the Elevated ROAD between BKC ( G Block) to the Eastern Express Highway and also the Railway flyover in place of the Railway crossing on the VN Purav Marg, Chunabhatti. The Executive Engineer A R Bhisikar informed Galgali that, the project got administrative approval on 16th August 2014 for a cost of RS 155 crores 70 Lakhs. As of now almost RS 136 crores has been spent and M/s J Kumar Infrastructure Ltd is working on the project. The Work Order is dated 21st April 2015 and scheduled due date for completion was 31st October 2018. The project has been now granted extension by one year upto 31st October 2019, and it is presumed that in November 2019 the Elevated ROB would be thrown open for traffic.
The MMRDA administration has also listed out the reasons for delay in completion of this project. The list of reasons provided contains, construction of Storm water drains alongside the service roads on the both sides, on the recommendation of PWD and Traffic Police. Similarly amalgamation of the main highway road with the service roads and throwing them open for training is also listed out. A lot of time also got consumed in getting possession of the reservation land for roads adjoining the highway in the Somaiya Maidan. Also survey and rehabilitation of PAP's from Prem Nagar and getting possession of that land, the 110 KV high tension lines belonging to Tata Power and the two towers needed to be shifted by reconstruction, which consumed time. Also the Construction of ROB and FOB on the Central and Harbour rail lines took a lot of time by the Railway administration. The Railway flyover project could start only after the existing railway crossing route was widened to accommodate the ROB, the PAP rehabilitation for the widening was also a cause for delay.
Anil Galgali expressed his veiw that, post the completion of both the Elevated ROAD between and Eastern Express Highway and the Railway flyover, the traffic situation on the SCLR, Sion Railway station, JVLR will easen up and a direct access to BKC from the EEH would get created benefiting the motorists.
