The MCGM which has an annual budget for Rs 27,258 crores has an audit and accounts department, but within them they have only one Chartered Accountant on its roll has been revealed through a shocking information provided by the MCGM to RTI Activist Anil Galgali.
RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought information from the MCGM's Audit department about the how many staff it has in its department and also amongst them how many are Chartered Accountants. The Dy Chief Auditor of the GAD dept informed Anil Galgali that, under the Cheif Accountant (Finance) only one person named Rajput Mahendra Kumar Bhagwan Singh, a senior Auditor & Accounts Assistant is a qualified Chartered Accountant. The department consists of an Cheif Accountant, Dy Chief Accountant, and 18 senior officials with various designations along with a total of 1473 officers and staff. Amongst them only one officer is an qualified Chartered Accountant.
The MCGM'S Audit department consists of 559 staff, but none amongst them is a Chartered Accountant. The MCGM'S Audit work is overseen by the Cheif Auditor dept and the Cheif Accountant (Finance) also looks into, but amongst them there is only one Chartered Accountant is a very serious ignorance stated Anil Galgali. If more Chartered Accountant are appointed, the irregularities and corruption can be curbed and the MCGM'S can benefit in future stated Galgali in a letter addressed to CM Devendra Fadnavis in an attempt to draw the attention of the government on this lapse.
That the MCGM does not have in-house adequate Chartered Accountant is a very serious lapse, further the Cheif Auditor who is appointed by the state government to control and scrutinize the working of the MCGM too is not an Chartered Accountant. The Cheif Auditor is appointed by the State Government to oversee the working of the MCGM.
