2.44 Lakh posts are vacant in the Maharashtra State 

✓ No vacancy has been filled since last 30 months.

It has been revealed in RTI query filed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali that more than 2.44 lakh posts are vacant in various departments and Zilla Parishads in the State of Maharashtra. The total number of sanctioned posts in 29 government departments and Zilla Parishad is 10 lakh 70 thousand 840. Out of this 8 lakh 26 thousand 435 posts have been filled and 2 lakh 44 thousand 405 posts are vacant.

Anil Galgali, an RTI activist, had submitted an application to the Government of Maharashtra on Jun 14, 2023 seeking information on sanctioned posts, vacancies and vacancies in all categories of posts under the Government of Maharashtra. The General Administration Department has provided information to Anil Galgali on group wise government and Zilla Parishad groups A, B, C and D till 31st December 2020.

The total number of sanctioned posts in 29 Government Departments and Zilla Parishads is 10,70,840. Out of which 8,26,435 posts have been filled. There are 2,44,405 vacancies. There are 192425 government employees and 51980 Zilla Parishad posts with a total of 244405 vacancies.

The total sanctioned posts of Home Department are 2,92,820 out of which 46,851 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Public Health Department are 62,358 out of which 23,112 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Water Resources Department are 45,217 out of which 21,489 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Revenue and Forest Department are 69,584 out of which 12,557 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Higher and Technical Department are 12,407 out of which 3,995 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts in the Department of Medical Education and Medicine are 36,956 out of which 124.23 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Tribal Development Department are 21,154 out of which 6213 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of school education and sports department are 7050 out of which 3828 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Public Works Department are 21,649 out of which 7751 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Co-operative Marketing Department are 8867 out of which 2933 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Social Justice Department are 6573 out of which 3221 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Industry, Energy and Labor Department are 8197 out of which 3686 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Finance Department are 18191 out of which 5719 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Food and Civil Supplies Department are 8308 out of which 2949 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Women and Child Development Department are 3936 out of which 1451 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Law and Justice Department are 2938 out of which 1201 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of Tourism and Cultural Department are 735 out of which 386 posts are vacant. The total sanctioned posts of General Administration Department are 8795 out of which 2325 posts are vacant.

According to Anil Galgali, the vacancy is causing delays in service and ordinary citizens are suffering. Although an average of 23 per cent posts are vacant, Anil Galgali lamented that in some departments there are 30 to 50 per cent vacancies and the government needs to fill these vacancies immediately. No vacancy has been filled since last 30 months.
