A seminar on 'RTI and Journalism' was organized at the Garware Journalism Education Institute, University of Mumbai. Taking part in the discussion, Anil Galgali, keynote speaker of the program organized under the Communication-Dialogue series, said that the 'Right to Information' Act 2005 is the biggest power given to the people since independence. This has opened the doors of public offices to the general public and made the government accountable to the public.
Anil Galgali said the central and state governments have created separate departments for the RTI which are obliged to provide the desired information to the applicant. Responding to the students' question, Anil Galgali, who made several exposing revelations by the RTI, also explained that the Act only gives the right to information, not action.
