29 cases of Sexual harassment are registered in MCGM offices every year.

The Statistical data supplied by Complaints committee working under Women Sexual harassment Prevention chief and 'Savitribai Phule Women resource centre', pointed out to alarming growth in such cases. Unfortunately refused to share data regarding the implementation of orders passed by these vigilance bodies, burdened with the responsibility to stop sexual harassmentl in work places. They refused to share information on those cases, where 'action taken report' has not been filed on the orders issued by these statutory vigilante group. This information is restricted, was the argument given. 29 cases of Sexual harassment are registered in MCGM offices every year, reveled by RTI Activist Anil Galgali RTI Activist Anil Galgali ask various information regarding Women Sexual harassment Prevention chief and 'Savitribai Phule Women resource centre during last 4 years. A total of 118 complaints of sexual harassment in MCGM were received between 2013 to 2016, Public information officer & Administrative Officer Rekha Kale informed Galgali. Out this 21 were filed in ongoing year 2016 itself. Out of the pending cases, 96% have been cleared. Just 4 cases registered this year have shown 'pending' in the records. Were those who were held guilty after inquiry ever punished? Question that still remains unanswered by the committee, citing the fact that concerned department takes the call on punishment. Out of the total 16 members of the committee, 8 members, including the President & Secretary, are related to medical field. 7 are doctors, while 8th is an Administrative officer. The said committee was appointed in 2009. MCGM deputy Commissioner ( General Administration ) appoints committee after consultation with Additional Commission (Suburbs) & permission of MCGM Commisioner. The term of President, Secretary & members of the committee continue up the day of their retirement. Anil Galgali in a letter addressed to Municipal Commissioner has demanded that, all the names of the officers and staff who have been found guilty of sexual harassment by the committee, should be displayed on the MCGM'S website as, this will act as a strong deterrent for the others as the fear of Public shaming will reduce the future instances.Galgali further demanded that postings on the committee appointed to look into the complaints of the women's sexual harassment in the work place by the MCGM as well as the Savitribai Phule women's development centre be for a fixed term including the Chairman, Secretary and the members, so as to ensure that no lobbies get to control the activities there. This will also ensure that varied experience of the other senior officers can be utilised there.
