Hema Malini's exploits include destruction of mangroves on the previously allotted versova land.

Hema Malini the BJP MP who is currently under fire for securing land for her dance Academy costing crores for a pittance 70,000, seems to have violated the provisions of the coastal regulation zone Act by destroying the mangroves on the land allotted to it previously. The fact has come to light through the documents provided to RTI activist Anil Galgali, she was served a notice by the Mumbai suburban collector for the same. RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought information from the Mumbai suburban collector regarding the allotment of plot to Hema Malini for her Dance Academy. The information provided by the Collector reveals shocking disclosures. Prior to the land allotted currently at Village Ambivili in Andheri taluka, Hema Malini was allotted another plot at village versova, bearing survey no 161, adjoining the versova Creek, being plot no 1 admeasuring 1741.89 Sq Mtrs for which the possession was handed out on 4/4/1997. The Academy had made a payment of Rs 10 lakhs for the same. But Hema Malini had showed an area of 50,000 Sq Mtrs in its project report submitted on 6th April 1994. Similarly it had shown a balance of Rs 22.50 lakhs in its bank account with the Santa Cruz branch of Samta sahkari bank Ltd. Furthermore it had projected an project cost of Rs 3.70 crores. The Mumbai suburban collector had served an notice to Hema Malini on 28/8/1998. It had show caused the trust as to why should the letter of intent issued for the allotment of land not be canceled for violating the norms of the CRZ. The show cause notice contained three issues namely, there was a vast difference in the area of land allotted and the area of land mentioned in the project report. The trust submit a project report signed by an Architect showing availability of 25% of funds projected in the project report and also show how does it Intended to raise the balance 75% required for the project. The major issue raised in the notice was the destruction of the mangroves adjoining the land. The letter Cum notice also specified that the CRZ rules not be violated. But in the report submitted by the Tehsildaar of Andheri it has been mentioned that the rules of CRZ Act was violated by destroying the mangroves. The notice which demanded an explanation within 10 days, was not even responded by the trust, neither was any action taken ahead by the Collector office. On the basis of the facts before the government, the new land allotment was initiated by this govt by ignoring the previous violations and the Principal Secretary (Revenue) also overlooked the issue by not going through the past records, alleged Anil Galgali, stating further that, serious violation of destruction of mangroves was overlooked and while taking no action the issue was glossed over and the new government has misused the rule of valuation of 1976 and allotted another land in lieu of the old one for pittance Rs 70,000 at village Ambivili admeasuring 2000 Sq Mtrs and the land being reserved for Gardens.
