After spending 498 crore, 32 Bmc school work not progress so much

Anil Galgali, an RTI activist, has been informed that the BMC administration has started work since 2018 to to 32 schools at a cost of Rs 498 crore. In the year 2020 alone, 16 out of 32 schools have not completed work in stipulated  time and in the year 2021, 10 schools are not progressing as expected.

Anil Galgali, an RTI activist, had sought information from the school infrastructure department of the BMC about the ongoing school development work in Mumbai. Anil Galgali has been provided information by 7 public information officers and based on the information, it is seen that the municipality has released work worth Rs 498 crore for 32 schools. 7 out of 32 schools are being constructed on the new site in 2 in L ward , 2 in K East, 1 in G North, 1 in R Central and 1 in R South wards. Work on most 8 schools is underway in Kurla L ward. Based on the available information, it is noticed that 10 out of 32 works were required to be completed by the year 2020. 16 works will be completed in the year 2021, out of which 6 works deadline already expired. The target is to complete 5 works in 2022 and 1 in 2023.

Rs 111.85 crore is being spent on 8 works in Kurla L ward. Rs 11.84 crore is being spent in N ward. M East is spending Rs 43.29 crore on 3 works while M West is spending Rs 41.24 crore on 2 works. Rs 8.84 crore on one works in G South, Rs 50.31 crore on 2 works in F North,  Rs 2.77 crore on one work in G North, Rs 16.84 crore on 2 works in K East, Rs 17.36 crore on one work in H East, Rs 23.18 crore on one work in T Ward, In K West Rs 34.01 crore spend on 2 works in ward, Rs 39.22 crore on 3 works in P North, Rs 14.44 crore on one work in R North, Rs 42.14 crore on 2 works in R Central and Rs 40.90 crore on 2 works in R South ward.

The administration is kind to the contractor and is stingy in imposing fines. There is only one work under N ward and a fine of Rs 60,000 has been imposed. Rs 35,000 in G South Ward, Rs 75,000 in F North, Rs 25,000 in G North, Rs 87,500 in M ​​East, Rs 1.07 lakh in K East, Rs 84,000 in K West, Rs 1.89 lakh in P North, R Central A fine of Rs 43,000 has been imposed here.

According to Anil Galgali, work worth about Rs 500 crore is underway and the quality of work is not checked at the local level as the school infrastructure has all the rights. All the work has been delayed and it is necessary for the municipality to conduct an audit by a third party so that the quality of civil and electric work can be checked, demanded Anil Galgali in a letter to the Municipal Commissioner.
