Whether Dharavi was developed or not, the government has spent crores of rupees on various expenses. The Slum Rehabilitation Authority has informed RTI activist Anil Galgali that Rs 31.27 crore has been spent on the Dharavi redevelopment project in the last 15 years.
Anil Galgali, an RTI activist, had inquired about the expenditure incurred on the Dharavi redevelopment project. The Slum Rehabilitation Authority provided Anil Galgali with a list of expenses incurred in the last 15 years. It covers 15 years from 1 April 2005 to 31 March 2020. From 1st April 2005 to 31st March 2020, 31 crore 27 lakh 66 thousand 148 rupees have been spent on Dharavi Redevelopment Project. An expenditure of Rs 15.85 crore has been shown on PMC charges.An amount of Rs 3.65 crore was spent on advertising and dissemination. Rs 4.14 crore has been spent on business charges and surveys. Rs 2.27 crore has been spent on legal fees.
Government Resolution of Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) was issued on February 4, 2004. Anil Galgali lamented that not an inch of redevelopment has taken place in the last 17 years and crores of rupees have been squandered. If the government redevelops Dharavi instead of a private developer, a large housing stock will be created. Anil Galgali has sent a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Home Minister Dr Jitendra Awhad saying that the government's coffers will be filled and govt get benifit.
