This information has been given by both the railways in a reply asked by RTI activist Anil Galgali. It shows that, Western Railway has earned much revenue than central railway.

RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought this information from Central and Western Railway. Mumbai's Senior divisional commercial manager of Central Railway Gaurav Jha has given the details of revenue generated from 7 locations from the year 2015-16 to 2019-20. According to the reply, Rs 5.92 crore in 2015-16, Rs 5.98 crore in 2016-17, Rs 6.60 crore in 2017-18, Rs 9.23 crore in 2018-19 and Rs 11.35 crore came in the year 2019-20.

The divisional commercial manager of Mumbai division Abhay Sanap of WR also gave the details of these 5 years from 2015-16 to 2019-20, besides inviting him to come Mumbai Central office and inspect the documents in the office as all information pertaining to revenues and parties were voluminous in nature. After visiting, he found out that Mumbai Division of WR earned Rs 33.15 crore in 2015-16, Rs 35.77 crore in 2016-17, Rs 40.01 crore in 2017-18, Rs40.18 crore in 2018-19 and Rs 54.48 crore in 2019-20.

According to Anil Galgali, there have been many instances of advertisers using more space than alloted to, but both the railways have failed to act on such complaints, which is adversely affecting its revenue. Galgali demanded CR and WR to set up a flying squad to check the compliance of the terms and conditions stipulated by the railways while renting hoardings for advertisement.
