BMC has been spent Rs 8.28 lakhs per month on Dengue Awarenes campaign

Brihan Mumbai Corporation (BMC) has spent a few crores on spreading Public awareness about Dengue, But this massive drain on civic funds has failed to make an proper impact. RTI activist Anil Galgali found out that on an average BMC has been spent Rs 8.28 lakhs per month on this campaign. His inquiry revealed that Rs 2.98 crores for during the span of last 3 years from Year 2013 to Year 2015.

RTI Activist Anil Galgali ask the details of sum spent on Public awareness about Dengue in Mumbai. A massive budget of Rs 2,98,21,995/- had already been spent on this awareness from 2013 to 2015, Dr Neelam Kadam, Assistant Health Officer & PIO of Information, Education & Contact Cell informe Galgali.The figures of the present year are yet to be collated. An amount of Rs 22,62,857/- was incurred in 2013, Rs 1,51,65,079.78 /- in 2014 and Rs 1,23,94,059.14/- in 2015 on various Dengue Awareness programs. On an average, Rs 8.28 lakh are being spent on these Public Awareness by BMC. Incidently, 11 patients lost their lives to Dengue in Year 2013. And in the following years, 12 Dengue deaths were reported in Year 2014 and 8 in Year  2015.

Anil Galgali has written to BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta suggesting use of social media platforms for this Public Awareness initiative. BMC could build a database, beginning by collecting Mobile numbers of thousands of patients visiting its hospital each day. Its time that other available options be utilized, As even after heavy expenditure the visual publicity had failed to achieve its aimed objective, said Galgali.
