Information of the suspension review meeting which reinstated Sachin Vaze in the service is not in the public interest - Mumbai Police

Mumbai Police has refused to give information to RTI activist Anil Galgali about the suspension review meeting in which The suspension of Ex API Sachin Vaze was reinstated to the police service after a review meeting.The proposal put forward at the suspension review meeting and the approval given to it is still in the bouquet. Other hand Mumbai Police has made a strange claim of suspension review meeting information not being in the public interest.


Anil Galgali, an RTI activist, had filed an online application with the Mumbai Police on April 8, 2021 seeking information. The suspension review meeting which held on June 5, 2020 at the level of Commissioner of Police, Galgali demanded that Copy of the decision taken to reinstate API Sachi Vaxs in the service and the proposal which submitted in suspension review meeting. It also sought information that after the suspension review meeting at which level the (  Chief Minister, Home Minister or Cabinet meeting ) and who approved the decision.Refusing to provide information to Anil Galgali, Mumbai Police informed that the information is being denied as per the provisions of Government Circular dated 17th October 2014 and Section 8 (1) (j) of Right to Information Act 2005. According this section Information which relates to personal information the disclosure of which has not relationship to any public activity or interest, or which would cause unwarranted invasion of the privacy of the individual unless the Central Public Information Officer or the State Public Information Officer or the appellate authority, as the case may be, is satisfied that the larger public interest justifies the disclosure of such information: Provided that the information, which cannot be denied to the Parliament or a State Legislature shall not be denied to any person.

Anil Galgali has filed the first appeal after the information was denied in this manner. According to Anil Galgali, the decision was taken at the suspension review meeting. So there should be no problem in giving information. Galgali also said that under Section 4 of the Right to Information Act 2005, the decision of the suspension review meeting and the minutes need to be published on the website.
