Election Commission changed the Boundaries of 30 Wards following Objections raised

Maharashtra State Election Commission changed the boundaries of 30 wards following objections raised against earlier delimitation. Election Commission accepted only 28 objections out of 629 in which mostly objections raised by All party Politician, revels a query filed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali.

RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought information on objection & suggestions raised against delimitation of wards and the action taken on them. Bmc Election Office informed Galgali that A total of 629 objections were filed against ward delimitation and 28 of these were accepted. While 601 objections gave been rejected.

Data made available to him reveals that almost all objections were raised by politician. These include BMC heavy weights like Leader of opposition Pravin Chedda, Improvements Committee chief Prakash Gangadhare, Promod Sawant, Haroon Khan, Shailaja Girkar, Vishnu Gaikwad, Ward Council Chairman Sudhir Jadhav, Kishori Pednekar & Shrikant Kawthankar. Others persons who's objections clear by Election Commission was related with BJP & MNS party  Boundaries of 227 wards as declared earlier have been altered following accepting of objections. Wards for which objections have been accepted are-  20, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 75, 86, 95, 96, 104, 107, 108, 124, 126, 127, 128, 132, 143, 145, 156, 157, 163, 164, 187, 189, 191, 192, 195 & 199.

Another interesting fact is that neither Election Commission, nor The Election department of BMC has informed in writing to the citizens, about the final outcome on their objections. Maharashtra Election commission has ruled that they are not bound to reply to the Objection, Election department informed.

React on RTI reply Anil Galgali  " People were given very little time to argue their case against the widespread irregularities in ward limitation". Common citizens will have to bear the brunt of this unwarranted haste. Changing and redrawing boundaries of wards after declaring gender & caste based reservations itself is wrong, said Galgali.
