Dr Vijay Kumar Gavit owes 44 lakh home dues

Former Minister Dr Vijaykumar Gavit bent rules by keeping occupation of his plush Government Quarter for 2 years after he ceased to be a minister. He has also not bothered to pay rent and other dues on this account, which now stands at Rs 44 lakh. It's revels by a query filed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali. Dr Gavit is a ruling party BJP MLA and his daughter Heena is sitting MP of the same party.

RTI activist Anil Galgali has dug up details of Dr Gavit's overstay and Government outstanding against his name. Earlier, Galgali had exposed then Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse's irregular overstay and his refusal to pay rent and other charges to the Government treasury for the same.

In Former Medical Education Minister Dr Gavit's case, He was alloted 'Suruchi' Flat as Minister during previous Congress-NCP regime. 20 March 2014 he resigned from Ministry to join the BJP, But continued to occupy the ministerial house.

According to PWD rules, Once a person ceases to be a minister he is allowed a "free stay" in Government accomodation for 15 day. If He/She chooses to stay longer, This can be done with proper permission of Government and the person concerned has to pay rent on per square foot of space occupied by him or her.  Gavit's kept occupation of the Flat for a good 2 years after his resignation as Minister. He gave up the bungalow on 29 July 2016. Not only this, He has not paid the rent charged on his overstay. PWD has recently served him a notice on 2 Jan 2017, calling him to pay a sum of 43 lakhs 84 Thousand 500 hundred due on him.

Anil Galgali has demanded that Government should make the BJP legislator pay the rent. Otherwise his monthly pay and allowances should be stopped and this money be utilised to pay his dues to the Government treasury. Such irresponsible behaviour by a ruling party MLA sends out a wrong signal among the masses, Galgali said.
