Search Committee appointed to select VC by Chancellor, was mislead by Dr Sanjay Deshmukh
Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, concealed information regarding his failure to clear LLB examinations, before the Chancellor nominated Search Committee, constituted to shortlist candidate for the post of VC. This was learned from the documents handed over to RTI Activist Anil Galgali by the Governor"s secretariat.
RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought the copy of the biodata submitted by VC Dr Sanjay Deshmukh before the search committee from the Governors Secretariat, which was provided by the Public Information Officer of the Governor's Secretariat. The 118 paged bio-data was submitted to Dr Madhu Chavan , the Nodal Officer of the Search Committee on 12th may 2015. The Biodata contained recommendations from Prof Dr M S Swaminathan, Founder of the Tamil Nadu based M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, Also recommendations from Dr Anil kakodkar, Ex Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Vice Chancellor of Amity University Dr Vijay Khole. Dr Sanjay Deshmukh who joined the Mumbai University as Professor in the Life Sciences dept on 5th January 2005, provided all information related to his Graduation, Post Graduation and Phd, but did not mention anything about his LLB enrollment and failure to clear his examinations.
Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, who had enrolled for LLB course, did not appear for his 1st Semester examinations held in October / November 2014. He appeared for his 2nd Semester examinations held in April / May 2015 and was required to be mentioned in his biodata submitted before the Search Committee alleged Galgali. It is an clear cut attempt to mislead as any candidate who applies for any position has to submit his current activity also with his qualifications achieved earlier, but why did Dr Sanjay Deshmukh conceal his LLB enrollment and examinations attempt is a big question mark stated Galgali. It is only when he failed to clear exams did this secret got revealed.
Anil Galgali in his letter addressed to Shri Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Maharashtra has sought action on Dr Sanjay Deshmukh for concealing facts before the Search Committee. He further sought dismissal of the VC Dr Sanjay Deshmukh for his actions of concealing facts about his unsuccessful attempt at LLB examinations and requested the Governor that a deserving and competent person be appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the world renowned Mumbai University.
