Maharashtra Government's 'Directorate of Arts' does not have a
full time Director for last 12 years. In a RTI inquiry by RTI Activist Anil
Galgali revealed this shocking state of affairs the working of this
Directorate. This high-level Directorate, as an apex body to head all state
government organization related to Arts across Maharashtra for coordinating
their activities.
RTI- Activists Anil Galgali ask the information regarding a appointment
of Director and Incharge Director in last 15 years. Prof. M.B. Ingle was
appointed as its first Director on 1st June 1999 & continued in office for
5 years up to 30th June 2004. He happened to be the first and the last
full-time director to be so appointed. The position has not been filled since
then till to date, even after of lapse for 12 long years. During this time 9
part time Directors have been handed over charge one after another for running
the affairs of Directorate, Public Information Officer N.M.Waghmode informed
the RTI activist. Prof. L.M. Yevale, Prof. S.B. Thakre, Prof N.V. Pasalkar, Dr.
R.C. Balapure, Prof. H.R. Nagdive, P.H. Wagde, G.B. Dhanorkar, Prof. G.G.
Waghmare & Prof Rajiv Mishra have handled part-time charge of the
Directorate. Present incumbent Mishra has been heading the Directorate since
1st December 2015. After the BJP government came to power in Maharashtra two
years ago, With 'Preservation of Arts and Culture' high on its agenda, It was
expected things would change, But 'Achhe-Din' failed to arrive for this
Directorate, Galgali said.Galgali had specifically asked in the RTI, Who is responsible for filling up of the vacancy of Director of this Directorate? The Directorate itself & Higher & Technical Education Department was told to be
responsible for the appointment. With the present Higher & Technical Education Minister Vinod Tawde facing the flak for his overall non-performance, Galgali has requested Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene in this matter, to appoint a Director of Arts at the earliest.
