31 deaths due to Dengue in Mumbai in 3 Years

Dengue, as a disease, is proving to be a bane for Mumbai -With 31 people losing their lives to this disease during last 3 years. 2707 cases of Dengue have been detected in Mumbai from Year 2013 to 2015, Health Department of BMC informed RTI Activist Anil Galgali. Dengue has a death rate of around 1% in its victims, The figures revealed.
Anil Galgali had asked for a ward-wise data of communicable disease in Mumbai. Dengue claimed 11 lives in Year 2013, 12 in Year 2014 & 8 in Year 2015. The figures of the present year 2016 were not revealed in the RTI reply.
3 year data of Dengue shows the disease is fairly evenly spread in City & Suburbs. During Year 2013, P-South Ward & M-East Ward were worst affected with 2 Dengue deaths each. Seven deaths in other wards B Ward , G-North Ward , G-South Ward , K-East Ward , L Ward , N Ward & T wards registered a death each during that year. In Year 2014, A Ward and K-East wards registered 2 Dengue deaths each , While D Ward , E Ward , F-South Ward , G-South Ward , H-East  Ward , M-East Ward  & T Ward wards also had one death each. In Year 2015 the overall Dengue death figure came down, but M-East Ward & R-South Ward still had 2 deaths each that year. D Ward , F-North Ward , G-South Ward  & K-East Ward also saw one death each during 2015. Dengue affected patients data shows that E ward and G-South Ward have been the most affected areas, with 359 & 319 detected cases of disease each during these 3 years.

Anil Galgali has suggested that instead of time-bound anti-Dengue programmes,  Year long drive for complete eradication of the diseas
e need to be undertaken.
