1274.80 crores significant increase in construction cost of Mumbai Metro Line- 4 Wadala - Kasarwadvali

A whopping Rs 1274.80 crore increase in construction cost and 5-year project delay in the Mumbai Metro Route-4 (Wadala - Kasarwadvali) project is a major setback for Mumbai's development. This information disclosed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali through RTI has highlighted the laxity of MMRDA's Metro Administration and lack of project management.

RTI Activist Anil Galgali had sought various information from the Metro Project Implementation Branch. Metro Project Implementation Branch gave detailed information to Anil Galgali. The work of Mumbai Metro Line- 4 Wadala - Kasarvadavali was awarded to RInfra-ASTALDI and CHEC-TPL on 12 April 2018. Wadala to Kasarvadvali Metro Route 4 is an elevated route of 32.32 km length. There are total 30 stations in this route. The work was expected to be completed by July 2011. Now the new deadline is August 2026.

Lack of penal action:

Anil Galgali has demanded punitive action due to cost overrun of the project and non-completion of work on time. The expected construction cost of the Mumbai Metro Line-4 Wadala - Kasarwadawali project was 2632.25 crores for construction works. Now there has been a significant increase of 1274.80 crores. Considering the cost escalation and 5 years delay, penal action can be taken but unfortunately no penal action has been taken yet.

The route will provide interconnectivity between the existing Eastern Express Roadway, Central Railway, Monorail, existing Metro Route 2B (DN Nagar to Mandale), Metro Route 5 (Thane to Kalyan), Metro Route 6 (Swami Samarthnagar to Vikhroli). However, Anil Galgali has expressed the opinion that the delay in such an important project is dangerous for the service of Mumbaikars. Galgali has demanded that the government and MMRDA be held accountable for the increase in expenditure.
