No proposal for farmers' loan waiver in Maharashtra

Maharashtra Government has requested Central Aid for Loan Waiver of farmers, But it seems it does not have a Roadmap in place for implementing the same. An RTI by activist Anil Galgali revealed that Farm loan waiver issue has not been taken up for consideration at official level as yet.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has requested Union Government Aid to implement Farm loan waiver in state, During his Delhi visit on Sunday. But the Public Information Officer of Cooperative Department, D.M. Rane has clarified that the issue of loan waivers for farmers is not under consideration.

In fact, The RTI reply denied having Information on loan debts of farmers, As a register collating such information is yet to be created. And information on landholdings of farmers was supplied instead. This shows that maximum 1.37 crore farmers had landholdings more than 5 acres. 1.07 crores had less than 2.5 acres & only 67 lakh had landholdings less than an acre in Maharashtra.

Anil Galgali has written to Chief Minister Fadnavis requesting him to take immediate steps to emoilerate conditions of farmers in the state, As promised during last elections.
