BMC runs up a bill of Rs 2.77 crore for keeping BKC clean, MMRDA delays payment

MUMBAI : BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has run up a bill of Rs. 2.77 Crore for sweeping streets under jurisdiction of State body "Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority" (MMRDA). RTI Activist Anil Galgali has appealed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Who heads the cash-rich MMRDA, to clear these dues along with interest.

RTI Activist Anil Galgali had put up a RTI application enquiring in to details of cleaning of BKC. Solid waste management department of BMC informed Galgali that Mechanised broom is being used for cleaning BKC and KBA Infrastructure & Cleantech Pvt. Ltd. (JV) has been given this responsibility. BMC's H-East ward office took up the task of cleaning of Bandra-Kurla Complex from 25th May 2014 onwards on a daily fee of Rs 29,007 per day. This arrangement valid for 5 year also provided for additional 15% supervisory charges, with a provision of 5% yearly increment on all dues. MMRDA has not paid-up since and the pending bill for 891 days has now piled up to Rs 2,76,73,918. 67 /-.

All queries on payment of pending payment by H-East ward office have been stonewalled by Engineering department of MMRDA. The Chief Engineer has not even shown the courtesy of a formal reply to four reminders sent by BMC officials. Anil Galgali has demanded action against the Chief Engineer and demanded prompt payment of dues along with interest to the civic body of Mumbai. MMRDA has been making an earning of crores from BKC, with BMC led team toiling hard to keep it clean. It won't hurt cash-rich MMRDA to reimburse the pending bills of Mumbai civic body, Galgali wrote to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
