The Mumbai University, which was totally failed to declare the results of several courses on scheduled time, has defalcated Rs 50000 registration fees of Senate election This information has been given to RTI activist Anil Galgali. The state government has canceled the election of the Senate after registration by the Mumbai University.
RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought information from the Mumbai University regarding received application under the Graduate voter list and total fee for the selection of the University Senate election in 2015. Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor (Election Department) Ravindra Salve infirmed Anil Galgali that Under Category 'A' 2521 and Category 'B', 2492 such total 5013 applications were received. Despite the cancellation of the Senate election the fees deposited by the Mumbai University had not been refunded. The application 'A' was for new voters and the fee was 20 rupees while the application 'B' was not of any kind of fee as it was for the old voters. In this case, the Finance and Accounts Department of Mumbai University told Mr Galgali that Rs 6,820 in July 2015, Rs. 43,480 in August 2015 and Rs. 120 on September 2015, thus, a total of Rs. 50,420 were received.
According to Anil Galgali, even after the cancellation of the Senate elections, the Mumbai University has not returned the fees to the voters till date, which is like indirectly defalcating the election fee which was deposited for the election. Therefore, Galgali, in a letter sent to the Governor Vidyasagar Rao, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Education Minister Vinod Tawde, Minister of State for Education Ravindra Waikar, has demanded that every graduate should be refunded his money with interest.
