All MMRDA Skywalk need to Safety Audit

In view of the Dahisar Skywalk collapse, RTI activist Anil Galgali has demanded Safety audit of all Skywalks built by MMRDA across Mumbai. Part of Skywalk collapsed in Dahisar last night, Injuring 2 passengers. Dahisar Skywalk was constructed in 2011 at the cost of Rs 15 crores.

RTI Activist Anil Galgali has written to Chief Minister demanding an enquiry in to Dahisar incident, Followed by disciplinary action against those found guilty. MMRDA, headed by Chief Minister has built 36 flyovers at a total cost of 865 crores. The 850 metre skywalk was built by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and thrown open for public in 2011. However, within a year of its opening, the Rs 15 crore skywalk had started developing cracks on the pathway.

Dahisar flyover, Even after having spent 15 cores could not last for 5 years. This highlights that fact that undue haste was shown by MMRDA in awarding Skywalk building contracts, Almost turning a blind eye to the durability & security aspect connected with thier construction. Security of citizens is of paramount importance, So all skyways must be audited testing their strength, Construction faults and possible wear & tear. The role of officials specially appointed to oversee these projects should also be put under scanner and responsibility must be fixed, Galgali pointed out in a lettermarked to Chief Secretary Swadhin Kshatriya and MMRDA Commissioner U.P.S. Madan.
